Angel Fire Weather Is Gorgeous!

We think Angel Fire weather is heavenly! We have been there in spring, summer and fall, and enjoyed it each time. (In fact, our plan is to spend most of next summer out there. It sure beats Florida in August!)

Lots of sunshine is one of the best things about Angel Fire. Even when it’s cold, the sunshine brightens everything up. In fact, you can expect about 345 days of sunshine!

Here’s the most important thing to know about Angel Fire: the weather can change very quickly. Make sure you are prepared, especially if you are out hiking, biking, rafting, etc.

Four Beautiful Seasons

Winter

Yes, it can get cold…but that’s why you come in the winter, right? For the snow! (Anyway, it’s a “dry” cold.)

The advice about dressing in layers is very important here. You’ll feel hot in the sunshine on the mountain one moment, and then feel like someone turned on the a/c the next.

Summer

Park ranger Randy King told us that he’s seen snow in Angel Fire in August! I’ll take him at his word, but when we were there in August it was just perfect: cool and crisp in the morning and in the evening, and sunny and warm for most of the day. An afternoon shower rolled in almost every day we were there, giving us the perfect excuse for a lazy nap/read after a morning of hiking.

Spring

Spring can be full of surprises: snow, sunshine, rain or a little of all three! Randy told us that a high school graduation planned outdoors at the Vietnam Memorial for the end of May was snowed out in 2008. For those of us in Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma who feel a bit cheated when spring rolls in with us barely noticing it, spring in Angel Fire can be a treat.

Fall

Fall foliage can be fabulous, but fleeting. Again, the weather can change quickly in the mountains so be prepared for anything!
