Angel Fire Hiking

When we are in Angel Fire hiking is one of our favorite things to do. There are so many beautiful trails, so close by! Whether you are looking for a leisurely stroll through the woods, or by Monte Verde lake, or a more challenging hike with a view, you'll find plenty of opportunities to enjoy New Mexico scenery here.

Elliott Barker Osha Pass Trail

There are a number of easy trails right behind the Valley Market in the center of town. You'll see a small trail head shelter and you can go from there. Our friends Dave and Sue hiked this trail when they were in Angel Fire in September. (It's on page 26 of The Hiker's Guide to the Enchanted Circle. We keep a copy in our Angel Fire vacation condo, or you can pick one up at the Corner Bookstore in town. The Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce also has free hiking maps.)

Dave and Sue said the changing colors on the Aspen leaves were just gorgeous...and we'll admit it. We were jealous they were there and we weren't!

Elliott Barker Trail #1

Dave told us he took this picture below on the Elliott Barker #1 trail found on page 28 of the guide. Here's what he said: "We had a little trouble with the directions because they listed a couple of roads to take to the forest road from 434, but we found the forest road right off of 434. There is a sign for a Catholic church and you turn there. Perhaps the road leading towards the church has a different number, but the forest road number is posted where you enter."
